Immanuel A. Indrawan is a litigation partner of Indrawan Darsyah Santoso (IDS) who oversees commercial dispute resolution practice within the firm. He started his legal career as a pupil in 2004 at a prominent litigation law firm in Jakarta, Indonesia and called to the bar on 2007. Before co-founded IDS, Immanuel joined one of the largest law firms in Indonesia where he helped to establish dispute resolution practice of that firm.
His practice area focuses on civil, corporate and commercial cases that typically arising from commercial agreements, transactions and other business related issues. Immanuel has argued at all levels of trial from the first instance to the top appellate Indonesian courts, defending Indonesian and international clients, in cases involving debt recovery, insolvency, maritime and shipping, employment/industrial relations, insurance and other corporate and commercial contentious matters.
Some notable matters he has been involved in include acting for one of the world’s largest aircraft lessor in the bankruptcy proceedings of an Indonesian airline; representing a major Indonesian state-owned company before ICC arbitration in a construction dispute arising from a FIDIC standard form of contract; and acting for a leading P&I club based in London, in a marine pollution case against local NGOs.
Immanuel is also a certified receiver for bankruptcy and administrator for suspension of payments, and a registered foreign lawyer at the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC).
Aside from his law practice, Immanuel puts substantial interests in academic area. He was invited as a guest lecturer on maritime and shipping law practice at Airlangga University in 2016. His article titled ‘Ship Arrest in Indonesia and Cross-Border Maritime Dispute’ was published in the Indonesian Journal of International Law (2017) Vol. 14 No. 4.
